Discover Rosemount, MN: Small-Town Spirit on the Twin Cities' Southern Edge
Rosemount, Minnesota pairs park-filled neighborhoods and a hometown festival with easy access to Minneapolis and St. Paul, which is a big reason so many people are putting down roots here.
Where it is
Rosemount sits in Dakota County on the southern edge of the Twin Cities metro. It started as a township in 1858 and became a city in 1972. The 2020 census counted 25,650 residents. Highways 3, 52 and 55 and County Road 42 connect you to the rest of the metro.
Parks and the great outdoors
Green space is a hallmark of life here. The city has roughly 30 parks covering about 540 acres, with soccer fields, tennis courts, nature areas and ball fields for youth leagues. Spring Lake Regional Park, on the Mississippi River, and Lebanon Hills Regional Park are right next door, so a weekend hike, bike ride or picnic is never far away.
Schools
Rosemount is served by Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools (District 196). Rosemount Elementary, Emerald Trail Elementary, Shannon Park Elementary, Rosemount Middle School and Rosemount High School are all in the city. Families can also look at private options such as Saint Joseph Catholic School, and Dakota County Technical College is located in Rosemount too.
Leprechaun Days: The hometown party
Every July, Rosemount celebrates Leprechaun Days, a volunteer-run festival that grew out of the "Crazy Days" sidewalk sales of the 1950s. In 1979 the community decided it would rather be Irish than crazy, and the festival has been a tradition ever since. The week typically brings dozens of events for all ages, and the 2026 festival wrapped up with the Midsummer Faire at Central Park, featuring a carnival, live music and food. Watch the festival website for 2027 dates.
